WHO ARE WE?

In late 2021, a common need was identified throughout the Dayton area - a shortage of mental health and social service providers. Without these crucial workforce members, the community can't secure the timely, effective mental health treatment and social supports it needs to thrive.

Originally, six community agency leaders from the Dayton Area met to discuss this concern and possible solutions. The result of that "think tank" was the development of the Community Workforce Development Committee. Since then the committee has grown from the original six community agencies to include representatives from community mental health agencies, social service agencies, healthcare organizations and university partners. Working together towards the goal of increasing the behavioral health workforce capacity allows us to cut out the competition for qualified candidates and work collaboratively towards meeting the needs of the community.

The committee focuses on three areas of action that are supported by published research and literature:

  1. Advocacy

  2. Community Collaboration

  3. Student Programming

ADVOCACY

Advocacy is an essential part of increasing the workforce. Areas that impact the workforce include advocating for increased reimbursement, improved work-life balance, and changes in legislation and policy that improve hire-ability of clinicians in Ohio.

COMMUNITY COLLABORATION

Community Workforce Development Committee is built on the foundation of support and collaboration to make sure that partnership is always a priority. Our success is driven by the common goal of all involved organizations: to serve the mental health and social services needs of the community.

If you represent an organization providing mental health or social services in the Dayton area and would like to join our committee, we would love to have you join us!

STUDENT PROGRAMMING

Student programming is a key component to building a pipeline for the behavioral health and social services workforce. From providing presentations at local universities to students who are preparing for graduate and join the workforce, to sharing referrals for students who are looking for field placement sites and networking with leaders in Social Work and Counseling programs, our committee provides a platform for leaders to collaborate and support the new professionals in the field.
